Leather book cover

Books are nice, having a book with you when you want to read one is even better. But tossing book into a backpack puts a lot of wear and tear on it. The solution, of course, is to make a book cover. I chose leather for two reasons; it is strong and flexible, and has sufficient stiffness to protect the book. Also, it ages with grace. Spots and smudges turn into patina over the years.

The construction is fairly strightforward: one piece that wraps around the book, two strips (about 7 cm wide) that form pockets for the cover. One strip to act as a bookmark. Finally a button for closure.

Once could decorate in many ways, tooling, appliqué, color, etc. I have considered making another, with a lot of quotes regarding reading and books tooled into the cover.
